CSM for CIRS Treatment in Kids

Both my boys reacted differently to CSM, namely Cholestyramine. It took some trial and error but we figured out a rhythm and they both took it with joy.

At first we mixed it in vitamin water and both drank it with no problem. After about a week, our 5 ½ year old started throwing up and having bad diarrhea. We realized he needed his CSM in ice cream to make it tolerable on his digestive tract. Twice a day with ice cream, his stomach was happy and we could mitigate the constipation with a laxative. More than twice a day, he got too constipated with ice cream and CSM.

Our 2 ½ year old did fine with CSM mixed in vitamin water. He actually really liked it because we rarely gave sweetened juice type drinks to him. We transitioned him to CSM with ice cream like his brother and tried to maintained regular bowel habit with a laxative.

Their bowel habits were tricky prior to starting CIRS treatment so CSM definitely accentuated the problem. My oldest had constipation challenges and my youngest had a cyclical foul smelling diarrhea and constipation.

We are realizing now at 8 month post CIRS diagnosis that they have parasite issues which are playing out in their constipation, diarrhea, and other issues. For us, it was good taking the progressive approach, focusing on CIRS treatment first and then, progressing to other health topics as they came up and needed addressing. I will write more on the topic of parasites and Lyme Disease later.
